An introduction to me

Hello! My name is Kelsey. I work as a Special Education Transition Teacher. I teach adults ages 18-22. It is amazing but hard work. The population that I serve has moderate to severe disabilities that can include behavioral issues that could range from verbal to physical issues. It can be very draining yet very rewarding. My students are everything to me!

Another thing that is everything to me are my animals:

My dogs name is Arlo and I have had her since she was 7 months old. She is going to be turning 2 in January. She is my life! Very spunky and definitely a momma's girl. My cats name is Binx and I have had him since he was a week old. Binx just turned 8 years old last month. I think the picture I chose of him is the most hilarious picture. He was sitting above me with the light shining on him and it is creepy but so funny!

I am also a Aunt to 5 amazing babies to young adults. My youngest is a few weeks old and my oldest is 24 years old. My sister has three great children and my brother has two great children. I get to see my two nephews all the time. They live down the street from me. My sister and her kids just moved to Michigan and unfortunately I do not get to see them as much. The love is still there though! I miss them very much. From youngest to oldest: Liam(few weeks old), James(5), Jaci(14), Aaron(19) and Vannah(24).

I am the youngest of 4. I am very close with my siblings. There is my oldest sister(Stephanie), my older brother(Ross), my twin(Kohl) and me. I am 5 minutes older than my twin and my parents did not know they were having twins until 7 months because I was doing a very good job hiding him (and our heart beats were in sync). My twin likes to say he is a survivor because when he was born he could be held in one hand and me, I was a healthy 7/8 pound baby lol.

I am into just about anything that involves crafting. I make candles, paintings, gnomes, glass artwork, wood carvings and probably many more things but I cannot think of them. Basically anything I can craft I will. I love working with my hands. I would love get back into pottery and one day own my own kiln for that and glass work.

I am interested in what this course will be like. I would like to learn more about technology and how to use it in my everyday life. Being a teacher I like to integrate it into everything.

Technology and me have a love hate relationship. I use it everyday by scrolling through facebook and sending a million snaps of my animals to my friends. I watch some TV but not a lot. Anything I watch on TV would be true crime, gossipy TV or documentaries.

  1. Thanks for introducing us to who you are and what's important to you, Kelsey! I'm excited to learn more about your thoughts on technology in your professional role this fall.

  2. Hi Kelsey! My niblings are hundreds of miles away and it's so difficult to be at such a distance; my own aunts and uncles were local when I was growing up.
I'll be really interested to hear your options on technology and accessibility given your profession- I imagine there are certain assistive programs or devices that could be really useful for your students! My own students are still 6-7 year old's and it's really easy to separate them from technology in the classroom and mete it out at prescribed times, but adults have their own developed relationship with tech before they come to your tutelage.
