 Let's get TRENDY

Trendy Tech in todays society and how we can use it in school to better the learning experience. This is something I am thinking about constantly in my classroom. It is also something that is talked about more in school after the pandemic hit. How to engage the student. Why not use technology! There are so many cool teaching techs out there like: peardeck, edpuzzle, kahoot, IXL, and boomcards to name a few. When I was teaching in high school I gravitated towards IXL for math and boomcards was in everything! I still use boomcards in my transition program. It was a fun and engaging way to teach the concept.

IXL is a tool that I used for all my math classes when I was teaching high school. It brought about independency in my students and it made my life easier because I wasn't always teaching at them, they got to be involved.

IXL is a math, reading, social studies and science interactive program. It has programing from pre-k to twelve grade in all the subjects. I have never used it for science and social studies but I am sure it would be great. As I stated before I used it for math generally and I used it for that independence piece. How I would run a session:

First: a video to explain the concept
Second: boomcards to practice the concept
Third: IXL to work on their own to further learn the concept.

What I like about IXL is that there is not a pass/fail. Yes you may get a answer wrong, yet the program explains what was wrong and then has you practice again. If you continue to get a problem wrong it keeps having you work on it till you can better understand and move on. I like that it doesn't have you advance till you can understand the prerequisites.
